Relational with the audience because he didn't take it to that risque level or the profanity level that some others did. So he was seen more as a clean comedian, although some of his jokes did border on the darker side. But sketch comedy has its origins in Music Hall in Vaudeville where short amusing acts were strung together. Fred Carnall from the late 19th and early 20th centuries developed a form of sketch comedy without dialogue. In Britain, sketch comedy moved from the stage to radio and then to television with shows like the Benny Hill Show, Monty Python's Flying Circus. I mean these shows became iconic and don't forget about Saturday Night Live which premiered in 1975. Now that is an amazing run for any television show, especially a comedy show that has gone through the amazing, amazing talent pool that it has. You know, Lorne Michaels has just been a legend in keeping that show alive, keeping it relevant, and just reinventing itself at times when it might have gone lower in the ratings or risk cancellation. They were able to resurrect it and bring it back. And Saturday Night Live today is still a favorite of many people, unless, of course, your name is Donald Trump, then it may not be your favorite show. But yeah, it became a pioneering force in American sketch comedy and it laid the groundwork for a lot of other shows. And that again, there have been movies and rom-coms and other things that have come out of Saturday Night Live sketches that have become motion pictures or television series and you know, so much more.
